Black Forest Regional Park Adventures

Black Forest Regional Park is located in El Paso County, Colorado, east of Colorado Springs. It preserves a large expanse of native Ponderosa pine forest and open grasslands, representing the distinctive ecological zone of the Black Forest area. The park covers a largely undeveloped landscape marked by gently rolling terrain, seasonal creeks, and diverse habitats supporting mule deer, elk, coyotes, and many bird species.

Historically, Black Forest was named for its dark, dense pine stands that dominate the region’s ecology. The area was heavily logged in the late 19th and early 20th centuries but has since recovered and returned to a natural state. Today, the park serves as one of El Paso County's primary outdoor recreation hubs, focused on conserving the natural environment while providing a range of accessible trails and outdoor activities.

Visitors enjoy over 23 miles of multi-use trails designed for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding.
